Media Tasting at FYR Cycene Ond Drinc Brunch Menu

Nestled in the central business district near Telok Ayer MRT, FYR is a casual dining restaurant serving modern European grills with a twist of Asian spices using Josper Wood Charcoal Oven. Recently a weekend brunch menu was launched and I was invited to the media tasting.  

If Champagne with brunch is too mainstream for you, how about cocktail with brunch? If you prefer something with red wine base, there is My Hot Vino Tinto ($10) or Blazing Scarlet ($10) which is with tequila as well. Alternatively, there are vodka, rum and prose do based cocktails available. My personal favorite is Light My Fire ($10) which is refreshing and more balanced.
Skillet-roasted Escargot ($12)
Instead of serving escargot in those little pot hole escargot dish, the dish was served in a mini pot. I like how perfectly cooked the escargots with turmeric and lemongrass are. Best of all, there were toasted bread that came with the dish. Dip in to enjoy the flavourful blast!
Grilled Squid ($12)
This is one of the dish that I enjoyed the most at FYR. The seasoning on squid was spot on! I like how juicy and tender the squid was! Definitely something delightful to have.
Yam & Sweet Potato ($8)
2 baskets of yam and sweet potato fries for $8!? I said take my money la but can change all to yam fries instead? As a huge lover of yam, I like how addictive the yam fries were. So thin, so crispy yet with distinct yam taste. Me likey!
Baked Beef Hash ($18)
Baked Java Curry Chicken Ragout ($15)
To be frank, I am not a huge fan of anything with a lot of beans. But given a choice between the two, I would choose the beef hash over the chicken ragout.
Baked Blinis ($15)
For $15, we get a slab of salmon, some greens and an egg topped with some caviar, I think this is quite affordable. Well, pancakes without any protein can easily cost more than these, right? Taste wise, ok lah, mai hiam loh.
Grilled Steak & Eggs ($28)
Who said steak is not for brunch? I like the idea of having steak as and when I like, especially during brunch. But more often than not, it is not served in many places that serve brunch. Thus I was happy to enjoy striploin with a sunny side up.
Baked Pistachio Melt & Pandan Ice Cream ($10)
I have previously tried the Baked Pistachio Melt & Pandan Ice Cream ($10) at FYR and it was one of the better dishes then. However, with the launch of the new brunch menu, this is no longer the star. In fact, I would say that the quality of the food has overall improved since its opening. Kudos and keep up the good job FYR!
