Food Review: Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh 强记肉骨茶 in Kota Tinggi

Along Kota Tinggi, on the way from JB to Mersing Jetty, is where this famous bak kut teh - Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh 强记肉骨茶 is located.  haha. This is another super outdated post of mine. I was introduced to this place  by my diving instructor when I went for my diving trip earlier this year. According to my diving instructor, Joseph, this place is usually crowded and is best to make reservation.

Taiwan Gay Pride Parade 2014 臺灣同志遊行 2014

Taiwan has been hosting Gay Pride Parade every October since 2003. I am very blessed to experience this eye opening event while I was in Taiwan for my holidays.

Cafe hopping Taiwan - 4Mano Caffé

Near ZhongXiao XinSheng Metro Exit 2(忠孝新生站二號出口) is where 4Mano Cafe is located. Actually I stumbled upon this cafe during my cafe hopping quest in Taiwan. Please note that reservation is highly recommended! I was told that the waiting time is at least 40 minutes. However out of goodwill and looking at the fact that i am a tourist, the waiter there managed to secure a table for me. So what is good here?

Ma Maison @ Bugis Junction Singapore

Photo Credit : Ma Maison Facebook
Ma Maison at bugis is no new establishment. In fact, it has been around for a very long while, at least 10 years? However last Tuesday was actually my second visit to this Japanese-French fusion restaurant as I always had this impression that it is a pricey restaurant. Much to my delights, the price range here is very affordable.

Personally I like the renovation here a lot as they give me a very western homely cosy feel. On top of that, when the night falls, the whole restaurant is dimly lit which gives a rather romantic and warm ambiance.

As I was late, Kris and Serene have ordered the food before me. Kris ordered Beef Stragonouv ($16.80). According to her, the overall taste is really good and the beef is tender. On top of that, food portion is relatively huge. As for Serene, she ordered Omu rice ($15.80). According to her, it was really good as well with the fluffy creamy omelette wrapping around the rice.

We have also ordered escargot ($9.80) to share. The escargots were tender and well seasoned with garlic, butter and herbs. Thus making it a great starter to have.
As for me, I ordered squid ink spaghetti ($16.80). It is very flavourful and fragrant. Although there is not much ingredients found, I enjoyed this dish very much.
We ended the night with a slice of  strawberry tart ($8.80). This is the star of the night. We were amazed by how big each of the strawberry is. Overall the tart crust is buttery and complimented with the strawberries very well which made it a fantastic dessert to end the meal.

Overall, it was a good dinning experience at Ma Maison bugis with good food and yummy desserts. However both me and my friends feel that the service here is rather inconsistent. On one hand, we have a male server in red checkered shirt bin chao chao (black face aka poker face) who totally ignored us when we asked him to take orders. On the other hand, we have a nice lady manager who served us with a smile.
Will I be back? Definitely yes, I was totally sold by the food served here.  =)

Good bye Noir Art Specialty Coffee 黑色藝術精品咖啡

Located along the stretch of shophouses at Mackenzie Road, between Rex Cinema and Mackenzie Car Mart, is where Noir Art Specialty Coffee is located. With Little India MRT station within 2 mins walk and a big open space carpark opposite, IMO this is totally a hidden gem. However today is also the last day of its operation.

Located just behind Chinatown Point, Hong Lim Food Centre can be easily access via public transport - Mrt with North East Line (Exit E) and buses. It is one of my favourite food centre in Singapore as it houses a lot of delicious local delights. Among them, Tuck Kee is one of them with unceasingly long queue. But is it really that good?

Cafe Hopping ~ Assembly Coffee @ Evans Road

Cafe Hopping ~ Assembly Coffee @ Evans Road
After hearing so much about Assembly Coffee, I finally made my way down to Evan Road with J. Located at Evan Lodge between wine company and Mr Prata, Assembly coffee can be easily missed if you don't keep your eyes open wide. I nearly missed it. Hiaks. I am rather thankful that J drives as the place is not very accessible via public transport. According to Street directory, it takes about 10 mins to travel there via walking and taking bus from botanic garden MRT station.

Basically this place is an integrated café, chill-out bar and a grocer. Beside selling stamps, providing dry cleaning & catering service, The Grocer by Sterling sells a wide array of imported crafted beers and it even has a pool table!

10 types of irritating commuters found in Singapore

After starting work with regular hours, I have been sharing the woes of  fellow commuters. Beside rushing to work in a sardine packed transport, there are also people who made the ride seems even worse. After 2 months, I figured out there are 10 different types of commuters which we all of us hate. The followings are the types of stupid irritating commuters that I often meet.

1* The "Scare-of-ghost" Commuters
Everyday I travel to work via MRT / Bus and there is always something that I don't quite understand. Why is the middle of the train cabin or the middle of the bus always so spacious? Thus I concluded that these people who refused to move into the middle of the transport vehicles are scare of ghost and there must be some invisible force there that I can't see but they can. If not why is it that fellow commuters need to squeeze hard to get into the transport while the middle of the transport is still so spacious? Personally I think it's still ok if you can get into the public transport. Many a times, I ended up looking at the spacious space wondering why nobody is moving in while I look at the MRT / bus move away without me.

Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014

2013 has been a very blessed year for me. Indeed just like what Pastor Prince preached, it is a year with the key of David that opens up doors that no one can close and closes door that nobody can open.
